Fingerprint Friday

I like big, billowy, white clouds.
The kind that build before a storm.

They make me want to praise the Lord.
And remind me that He is coming again someday.
Maybe He will return riding a huge, puffy cloud.

Psalm 68:4
Sing to God, sing praise to His name,
extol Him who rides on the clouds-
His name is the LORD-
and rejoice before Him.

The View

From my $5 green lounger.

It's a beauty, isn't it?
The view.
Not the chair.

Pretty Simple

I like corn dogs.
My greatest craving during pregnancy
was corn dogs.
Not just any corn dogs.
Sonic corn dogs.
And not just one.
Two.
I probably would have eaten three.
But that would look glutonous.

So, when a friend told me about this recipe
I had to try it.
Corn Dog Casserole
1 - 2 lbs hotdogs, quartered and halved (I sliced)
2 T. butter
Minced onion to taste
8 oz. Cheddar Cheese, grated
2 pkg. jiffy cornbread mix
2 eggs
1 1/2 c. milk
Preheat oven to 400. Saute hot dogs in butter until done. Mix cornbread mix, eggs, and milk. Add most of the cheese and hot dogs, reserving some for the top. Mix well and pour into greased 9 x 13 pan. Top with remaining cheese and hot dogs. Bake 30 minutes or until done.

So easy.
So cheap.
And, I think,
so yummy.
Surprisingly, my picky eater liked it.
Not surprisingly my daughter,
with more refined (read expensive) tastes,
did not like it.
She prefers steak, seafood, sushi.
She is her father's daughter.
Thanks, Beth.
I've already warned Brookie.
I'll be making it again.

I Did It

I stole that line from Jobie.
It is his favorite sentence right now.
But this is about me.

Each summer I read a classic.
I LOVE to read.
But I rarely take the time
to read some of the great older books.
They require too much thought.
I have 4 kids, remember?
So, the first day of summer break I picked the book.

It's possibly the ugliest copy of Wuthering Heights ever.
I got it free.
Years ago.
It had many typos in it.
And I did not enjoy it.
I was told I would like it.
By my mom, one of my friends and many others.
Wrong.

I started the first day of summer break.
And just finished yesterday.
The only other classic I didn't enjoy was Jane Eyre.
Something must be wrong with me.
Most people love that book too.

There's always next summer.
And at least I can say
I did it.

Brookelynn's Brunch

Planned and prepared by Brookie.
For her grandmas, aunts and one girl cousin.

The table with the little take-home favors.
The cousin.
And the food.
Bruschetta Triscuit.
Fruit Salad with Pecans.
Crescent Zucchini Pie.
Berry Nectarine Buckle.
Which Brookie called cake.
Because the name "buckle" doesn't sound good.
Everyone enjoyed the food.
And then Brookie provided the entertainment.

Brookie and Adrianna ALWAYS have to have a goofy picture.
It was so much fun.
We just may do it again.

Fingerprint Friday

Our beautiful, white, country church
burned to the ground January 29, 2008.
We got the phone call at 2:30 in the morning.
We had just been there for a service 6 hours earlier.
We had left a couple of our kids' books in the back pew.

My guy grew up there.
As did his dad.
And his grandpa.
It was gorgeous.

The devastation was complete.
Nothing salvageable.
When the church burned down,
we were without a pastor.
No church building.
No pastor.

Last Sunday, our new pastor preached for the first time.
We are so excited to have him and his family here.
I found myself thinking how he might be our kids' pastor
through their teenage years.
And how maybe one day he'll be the pastor
that preforms the ceremony when Brookie gets married.
Crazy, I know.

And, our new building is going up.
We should be in it by next spring.
God is good.
Even when it's hard to understand His ways,
I know He is sovereign, omniscient and loving.

Romans 11:33 & 36
Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God!
How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways!
For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things.
To Him be the glory forever.
Amen.

Bribes and Pictures

A friend took the kids' pictures last night.
They did not want to go.
I told them if they were good,
they would get watermelon after.

My daughter said:
Why do you have a watermelon?
Me:
To eat it.
Her:
I know that! But why did you buy it?
Was it on sale or something?

She knows me so well.

Beki's pics are way better than mine.
And I promise my kids are all clothed in them.
Click here to check them out on her great blog.
She's one super gal with cute kids and fun jewelry.
