Twelve

It's hard to believe that 12 years ago today
I was experiencing my first day as a mother.
My first day with my daughter.

My first time.
To see her adorable face.
To hear her tiny cry.
To touch her little hands and feet.
To hold her.
To kiss her.
To snuggle my nose against hers.

We did not know if we were having a boy or a girl.
But I REALLY wanted a girl.
REALLY, REALLY wanted a girl.

She made us wait 8 days past her due date.

She was worth the wait. She's never been girly.
And, even though she still prefers
hoodies, tees and "sports" pants or shorts,
she's a beauty.Now I've been a mother for many days.
I don't know if I'm any better now than I was then.
I still have so much to learn.
But one thing I'm sure of:
I REALLY love this girl.
REALLY, REALLY love her.Happy birthday, Brookie!
My prayer for you,
as the days and years inevitably pass,
is that you remain even more beautiful on the inside
than you are on the outside.

Fingerprint Friday

Both of my grandmas have been gone for quite a few years now.
One over 11 years.
The other over 6 years.
I miss them.

They both liked geraniums.
I never appreciated them that much.
I thought they were stinky.
Well...they are.
But this year I planted several.
In honor of them.
All summer they struggled to survive.
I could not get them to bloom.

But suddenly, this fall flowers are popping out.
They are beautiful.
And I love them.I am thanking God today.
For small reminders.
Through His nature.
Of two wonderful grandmas.

Phillipians 1:3
I thank my God every time I remember you.

Each week Beki at therustedchain hosts Fingerprint Friday and uses a song by Steven Curtis Chapman as a springboard. Join in. It's a great way to be reminded of God's presence.

A Memory...

I would like to keep.
And cherish.

It had been a long time
since I had played a game with Ezzie.
So long, that I had forgotten that it actually was fun.

We sorted the money.
Counted the money.
And finally were ready to play.
After playing for a little,
we remembered to use the box lid
to roll the dice in.
So much nicer than readjusting the houses
everytime you throw the dice.

We talked about counting on when you are adding.
Love his little finger working hard.
We talked about counting by 2's.
He has a fondness for 2's.
He was so proud of his collection.
And he wiggled.
A lot.
His teachers say he sits nice in Sunday School.
I believe them.
He always sits nice at storytime.
But any other time...
he is one wiggly boy.

In between every turn,
he was doing this.
Or this.
Or this.
Or this.
I loved playing with him.
Talking with him.
Teaching him.
Seeing him get so excited when he beat me.
Watching his little hand work.
And I love that little mole on his wrist.
When he was a baby
he thought it was dirt.
And would work and work on it
to get it off.
I'm glad he wasn't successful.

It's the little things...
