Two Brothers and a Water Gun

It's not often that the baby in the family has the advantage.
He sure enjoyed it.
Then it was time to switch.
Pay backs are tough.

Sun and Moon

We were listening to the radio in the car the other day.
K-LOVE.
They've been doing their fund-drive.

DJ:
You never know what God can do.

Jobie (very matter-of-factly):
Well, I know one thing God can do.
He makes the sun come every day.
And then He makes the moon come.Such a simple, powerful truth.
From a 4 year old.
Acknowledging God's sovereignty.

Psalm 74:16
The day is Yours,
and Yours also the night;
You established the sun and moon.

Each week Beki at therustedchain hosts Fingerprint Friday and uses a song by Steven Curtis Chapman as a springboard. Join in. It's a great way to be reminded of God's presence.

Brats

Warmer weather.
Always means brats at our house.
We eat too many a few over the spring/summer.
Fire-pit, grill, even chimenea sometimes.
We don't care which way they are cooked.
We just really like them.

This weekend was our first time for brats.
Since last fall.
I decided the brats needed switched up a bit.
We always have sauerkraut.
But wanted something different.
So to the fridge I went.
Pulled out some veggies.
And created my own topping. Then I remembered green onion.
LOVE me some green onion.
So pretty.
I also added a little fresh black pepper.
And garlic salt.
Then set it in the fridge for an hour or so.The relish was all I put on my brat.
No kraut.
Or mustard.
Or anything else.
Just relish.
It was mmm-mmm good.

Cucumber Relish
1 cucumber, quartered lengthwise and thinly sliced
1 roma tomato, chopped
1 jalapeno, chopped
3 green onion, sliced
1/4 cup green pepper, chopped
handful cilantro
garlic salt, to taste
black pepper, to taste

Mix all ingredients together. Store in refrigerator to allow flavors to marinate until ready to serve.

Please don't tell me you have a recipe like this.
I want to live in my own little world,
of thinking I came up with this
all by my little ol' self.

I thought about adding lime juice.
But in the end didn't.
I was worried
that it would end up making the bun soggy.
Soggy buns (of the bread or human variety) = yuck.
Ha!
Or the true reason I didn't use lime juice
may have been that I didn't have any limes.
Whatever...

Also, at this meal.
We had a little taste test.
And learned 2 out of 6 Entz's prefer
multigrain cheddar pringles
over regular cheddar pringles.

We like to have intelligent
and worthwhile
convos at the dinner table.

Jobe and Kindergarten

It appears my baby is ready for kindergarten afterall.
Jobe had been insisting he didn't want to go.
Doesn't want to turn 5.
Doesn't want to grow up.

Last night was pre-enrollment.
We walked to the school.
He held my hand the whole way.
So I knew he was nervous. One of the teachers asked him what his name was.
He spoke right up.
A couple of months ago
he would have hid behind my legs.

He said: Jobe
I was surprised he didn't say: Jobie.

He even spelled his name for her.
I didn't know he could do that.
He writes his name.
I just didn't know he could spell it out loud.

Yah, me.
For teaching my kid things without knowing I did.

My other kids knew the alphabet.
Could write it.
Even read a little.
Before kindergarten.
Not so much Jobie.

I've still got a few months...

He is a great counter though.
I was a math teacher at one point.
His daddy is the writer.
He really should be the one to teach him letters.
Right?I'm fairly certain I will have streams of tears.
The first day of school.
But I didn't even get teary last night.
Proud of myself for that.
Ha!

I just asked him:
Jobie, did you have fun last night?
Jobie with a big nod: uh-huh!
Me: So are you ready for kindergarten now?
Jobie with another big nod: uh-huh!

Ok, now I think I'll go cry.

Easter

He is risen!
We have a Saviour who is alive!
And sitting at our Father's right hand.As always, the kids were so happy.
To get their picture taken.
Ha!It was a beautiful day.Jobie took this picture of my hubby and me.The family that God has blessed me with.Thank you, Jesus.
For becoming a sacrifice for me.
For loving me.
For desiring a relationship with me.
Amazing!

Life

We've had so many things happen lately.

In the past few weeks:
1. I've lost my favorite coat.
Left it at a ladies' retreat.
In the closet of my hotel room.
A housekeeper must have really liked it...

2. Brookelynn lost a brand new hoodie.
Her new track hoodie.
She loved it.
Wore it in 80 degree weather even.
Another jr higher must have really liked it...

3. Ezra basically poked a hole in the top of his head.
Ran into the corner of an open drawer .
It bled a lot.
And he has a lot of hair.
So it was hard to see how bad it was.
I told him we might have to shave his head.
He didn't cry until I said that.
He really likes his hair.
That same day he bumped it again.
And it bled a lot again.
I got a little woozy.
Yuck.

4. Jake fractured his wrist.
Playing basketball.
In our yard.
It took a week and a half
for the doctors to decide it was indeed fractured.
He has to wear a brace for 4 more weeks.
He's not happy about it.
But at least it's not in a cast.
And it's his left hand.
He still is out playing basketball everyday.

5. I messed up one of our van doors.
In a big hurry.
Backing out of the garage.
Jake didn't have the van door shut yet.
Whacked it on the garage.
It will shut.
If you slam it real hard.
Nice...
Ryan says there goes my master bath.
Boo.

6. KU lost.
We are all sad about that.
Jake's the most upset though.
You can't even talk about it around him.
The morning of the championship game.
I had a migraine.
The worst I've had since high school probably.
I didn't even pay attention
to what the boys put on that morning.
All three were completely decked out.Ezra even made a sign for our door.Inspite of all that,
KU still lost.
But we did have some yummy wings to eat during the game.
And key lime bars.
Made it all a little more bearable.
And the kids got to drink pop.
Always a treat.

This is life.

And I'm not whining.
Things could be much, much worse.
And good things have happened too.
Fun soccer games.
Seeing friends.
Shopping...I love to shop.
Bargain jeans for me.
$6!
Cute easter clothes for the kids.
And me.

I've got a beautiful life.
Messy sometimes.
But beautiful.

One last thing.
Totally unrelated.
Other than this is my life:
I'm a dork.
I had to make a little visit to the restroom.
In the middle of this post.
And realized my undies were inside out.
Really?
How does that happen?

Did I switch 'em?
Nope.
Why bother?
The day is half over already.
