Something's Gotta Give

With soccer practice taking place 3 times a week from 5:00 to 6:30, supper can become a challenge. I usually stay at practice and let the other kids play at the park (or in the car if the weather is yucky--that could be another post). Then I grab a chance to read a book or have an adult conversation with other parents.

It can be tempting to run thru a drive-thru after practice if I don't have something prepared at home. So this is what was waiting for us last night:

chicken and rice soup
cornbread
veggies with lemon dill dip
grapes
And, I might add, the table was even set

But, something's gotta give.
carnage in the family room
And, shortly before 5:00, I realized that I had yet to take a shower. Yep. That's how together I am. Don't ask me how that happened; it just did. So this is how the other soccer parents saw me:
Glamorous, huh? My hubby must be so proud.
And, now, I think I'll go take a shower...

New Dos

My 3 sons. They all need a haircut,
but I can't bear to see the curls on the baby go bye-bye.

BEFORE

DURING
This is how Jakie was the whole time.

Pretty sure the neighbors heard him.
And now you know why their hair was so long.

AFTER

He will refuse to let me spike it for school. So no one will ever actually see him this way.
Ezzie on the other hand...
wanted to make sure that Daddy could "cut" a mohawk.

Hopefully this is as close as we ever come.

The morning of day 1 of spring break

And what do kids do while muffins are in the oven?
One plays Webkinz
Two works on NCAA brackets (current passion)
Three colors
And Four? Four sneaks suckers Finally, they are done

Great muffins, if we do say so ourselves
Well...Two wouldn't agree, but One ate 3

Determined Ezzie

So, we've had two things to help Ezra get over.

1. the bear blankie
This went bye-bye the day he turned 4. He never complained. He just told me the night before his birthday, as I was tucking him in bed, "Mommy, I don't want to turn 4.

2. the two fingers
I don't know what prompted this, but on Wednesday I told Ezzie if he would quit sucking his fingers, Mommy and Daddy would buy him some new Playmobile pirate stuff (he got several Playmobile pirate toys for Christmas and is always asking for more). He took his fingers out of his mouth, said okay and never looked back.
The decision apparently wore him out. A little later he was asleep in our bed. He hasn't truly taken a nap for 2 years. I thought he was going to try to sneak his fingers in his mouth while he was "napping." But, when I went to check on him, I found him sleeping peacefully with his hand tucked under his head.

Ezra has done such a great job. So today we rewarded him with his new pirate toy. It cost us a little more than we thought it would, but look at that sweet boy. How could we resist?

Awesomest

Ezra: Larry is the awesomest
Gage: I know who is the awesomest, God.
Ezra: I meant on VeggieTales. Larry is the awesomest on VeggieTales.
Gage: Oh, okay.

Deuteronomy 10:17
For the LORD your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome.
