On Movies, Books and Jeans

We watched the Blind Side recently.
Finally.
We are so current.
Hip.
Up with the times.
It was really good.
(Not news to most of you, I realize.)
Loved Sandra Bullock.

The boys watched Up the other day.
And Sandlot (another day).
They quoted from both movies.
For 30 minutes.
The whole drive home from Brookie's soccer practice.
It is pretty hilarious to hear a 3 year old say:
You play ball like a girl!
or
Hello. My name is Russell.
All three boys were laughing the whole way home.
No fighting.
It was wonderful.

Since school has started again,
I've had a little more time to read.
I just finished
Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl.
Funny, interesting and sad.
Before that I read Princess Bride.
I cannot believe I am saying this but...
the movie was better.
Pretty sure those words have never left my mouth.
It wasn't awful.
Just different.
Some dialogue was identical to the movie.
Those were the best parts of the book.
Goldman definitely did a better job on the screenplay.

Two weeks ago I found a pair of jeans.
On sale for $10.
I tried them on.
And they fit.
A miracle.
Then in KC, I found another pair of jeans.
From a different store.
On sale for $10.
I tried them on.
And they fit.
Another miracle.

I haven't bought jeans for 3 years, I think.
I wasn't even looking for jeans.
Just stumbled upon them.
And then I try two pair on.
And they both fit?
And they are each only $10?
How is this possible?

In the past, if I found jeans that fit my thighs.
Or hips.
Or rear.
But then there was always a gap at the back of my waist.
Everyone doesn't need to know
that I wear hot granny undies.
And it wasn't because they were those super low rise jeans.
Don't do those either.
That pouch of fat around my belly button
(that I blame on the kids,
the last two in particular)
has to be squished in somehow.
Maybe jean manufacturers are finally figuring out
that some women have curves.
And not all women have toothpicks for legs.

I've been going through fall clothes for Jobe.
There is not one single pair of jeans for him
that don't have holes.
Guess I'll have to go jean shopping for him now.

I hope it's as easy to find jeans for him
as it was for me.
Not that I'm trying to rub it in or anything.
No.
Not me.
With my cute, cheap jeans.
That took no effort to find.
Definitely, not me.

Top Five...

Favorite movies.
Kinda'.

Likely, no one cares what my top five
of anything is.
Can't imagine anyone would.
But I always like reading others' lists.
So...

5. I'm really not sure what #5 should be...
Up? No.
Sleepless in Seattle? No.
The Terminal? No.
I'm forgetting a good movie.
I just know I am.
Oh, maybe it's Some Kind of Wonderful.
Haven't seen that one in a long time.
Or it could be Say Anything.
I like John Cusack.
And his sister Joan too.
Just thought of one more movie.
Bringing Up Baby.
It's an old one.
With Katherine Hepburn.
And Cary Grant.
Can't really go wrong with any Cary Grant movie.

4. Sweet Home Alabama
Mostly just because of the song.
Probably.
And the guy.
Maybe.
Not Mr. McDreamy.
The other one.
Oh, that reminds me of a movie.
Patrick Dempsey was in it.
It's from high school days.
He likes the popular girl.
He's not popular.
He becomes popular.
Turns his back on his "uncool" friends.
Gets the girl.
Looses the girl.
Because he becomes a jerk.
Becomes a looser again.
Then gets the girl in the end.
He mowed lawns.
What was that movie?
It's going to bug me now.

3. How to Loose a Guy in 10 Days
It's just cute.
And Kate Hudson is cute.

2. Sandlot
Funny movie.
With cute little boys.
And great music.
So many parts of that I love.
The pool.
The fireworks.
The carnival.
Almost makes you want to be a kid again.

1. Princess Bride
Do I really need to explain why?
It makes me laugh.
E.v.e.r.y. time.
Probably the most quoted movie in our house.

There you have it.
Notice none of them are recent.
We don't get out much.

None of them are artsy.
Or thought provoking.
Or clever.
I have simple tastes.

And a simple mind, apparently.
But they all make me laugh.
That's a good thing.
It's good to laugh.
I like to laugh.

Weekend in Review

Brookelynn and Jake could not go to sleep Thursday night.
They were convinced they would not have school Friday.
Sadly, they did.
Ryan, however got to stay home.
They were very jealous.
Ryan and the little boys shoveled snow.
The snow was not heavy,
so the boys were able to get big scopes.
Ezra was a pretty good help.
Jobe tended to dump his wherever Ryan had last shoveled.
As seems to be the trend for moms,
I took pictures from the front door.
After basketball and soccer games Saturday,
Ryan took the little boys, Brookie and a friend sledding.
(Jakie was bowling with a friend.)
I came for a little.
Then went grocery shopping by myself...
Ahhh.
We enjoyed plenty of family time.
Friday was supper at my brothers.
Saturday supper at my parents.
And Sunday dinner at Ryan's parents.

Ryan, with much sorrow, watched the retirement announcement
of his favorite NFL player, Kurt Warner.

And we watched two movies.
Ryan and I watched Seven Pounds.
To put it in Ryan's words: That was heavy.
It was.
Don't know that I need to see it again.
But not wishing that I hadn't seen it, either.

We all watched Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.
Ezra has his face buried in my arm much of the last half.
Jobie fell asleep on my lap.
I hated it.
It was weird.
And gross.
Food lying everywhere.
People with food stains all over them.
Odd.

Our weekend.
Minus the fights.
Poopy diapers.
Spills.
Lost shoes.
And general chaos that is our family.
