Super Birthday

Yesterday was Ryan's bday.
And Super Bowl Sunday.
Ryan thought it was so nice of everyone
to celebrate his birthday.
A national party in his honor.
Pretty cool.

We had some friends over.
I let him pick the menu.
Buffalo wings.
Brats.
That was pretty much all he said.
My guy the carnivore.

So I added to it.
Chips, pretzels and dips.
Veggies.
Desserts.
Can you believe it.
He wasn't worried about the dessert at all.
I was.

I made three pies.
And my sis-in-law made one.
Key lime.
Peanut butter chocolate.
Vanilla cheese.
Chocolate.
Yummy stuff.

But actually, this post is not about that.
It's about me.
Just kidding.
Kinda.
It's really about his present.

I wanted to make him something this year.
I've mentioned that I'm not the craftiest person in the world.
So this is always a big deal for me.
But I got a little idea in my head.
And it morphed into this:Helvetica is one of his favorite documentaries.
He's a geek.
I know.
In his defense, it's really not too bad.

So I spelled out "Helvetica" in that font.
Would have been funny if I would have used another font.
I almost had to.
Who knew our computers didn't have it?
Quick call to my mom at work:
Please tell me you have helvetica on your computer.
(I didn't put this off at all)
Mom saves the day again! Then I trimmed the letters all down.
And clothspinned them to cork board
that had also been trimmed down to size. This morning I threw some twine at Ryan.
And sent him off to work with his present.
In a Braums paper sack.
We are fancy people.
A few hours later he sent this from his phone:I think I'm going to use
this idea to do something for the little boys' room.
I've got some ideas rolling around
in this empty old head of mine.
We'll see how they turn out.

What's for Supper

First, I have to say:
I am typing this with one hand.
So I can clean.
The mixing bowl of chocolate chip oatmeal cookie batter.
With my finger.
There are benefits to making cookies.
While the kids are at school.
And the youngest is napping.

As I finished the above paragraph,
I lloked at the clock.
2:57.
I've been spoiled in recent years.
The older kids can walk home themselves.
So I keep forgetting about getting Ezzie at 3:00.
Snatch Jobie out of bed.
Run to the car.
I hate driving to school.
We live so close.
But I was not about to carry Jobe the whole way.

So when I started this post,
I was eating cookie dough.
This was the picture I had uploaded
of the some ingredients I was going to use.
For supper tonight.I've changed my mind.

Ryan is now going to be late.
Lara is now going to a soccer game.
Brookie is heading to the big city for soccer practice.
3 of my 7 family members won't be here.
Losing nearly half my family at supper
makes me rethink my plans.
That will all be for tomorrow night now.
Meatloaf.
Cheesy potatoes.
Corn.
Maybe I'll even make some rolls or something.

But now what's for supper tonight?
The question that plagues me every day.
Well...except for tomorrow.

What have you all made recently?

What We've Been Up To

We have been crazy busy.
Insanely busy.
Soccer tourney.
Soccer practices.
Potty training...unsuccessfully...still.
Refereeing fights between the little boys.
Kindergarten pre-enrollment...can you hear my sobs?
Last Bible study until fall.
Getting clothes ready for consignment sale.
Getting toys ready for same sale...can you hear Jobie's sobs?

In keeping with our lives right now,
my computer is acting insane also.
I am typing this with one hand
while my other hand holds the back of the screen.
If I let go for a second my screen goes plaid.
And I have to turn it off.
And start all over.
Fun.

But that's an improvement over the last two days.
Where I couldn't do anything.
No facebook.
No blogging.
Sad.

But, on the positive side,
we have been enjoying some yummy food.

A new treat.
Ryan and I ate these after the kids went to bed.
Bwahahaha!
Oh, so yummy!A longtime favorite.
Salty and sweet.
Nothing better.
And, yes.
Those are Valentine m&m's.
Bought them on clearance.
Stuck them in a cupboard.
Forgot about them.
Oh, the joy when I discovered them yesterday!ChocolateWaffleCookies
I took 4 dozen to Brookie's soccer practice.
They were gone within ten minutes. Veggie Pizza.
Brookie and I are the only ones in our family who like it.
More for us! Strawberries.
We all like these.
So pretty. Had to throw a little bit of healthy in there.

Now back to my crazy life.
I'm off to the grocery store.
And then...
More potty training.
More cooking.
More refereeing.
And on...
And on...
And on.
