Fingerprint Friday

Convicted by a two year old.
A little history:
Since Brookelynn was a baby
and until this day
when I want the kids to stand up in the bathtub
so I can wash their little tooshies
I sing the first few lines of the hymn
Stand Up, Stand Up for Jesus.
Early this week
I was busy doing...something.
Who knows what really.
I was just "busy."

The little boys were eating breakfast.
Jobie kept saying: Mommy!
I recall that now in the back of my mind.
But at the time it didn't register.
Then he said: Stand up for Jesus!
Without looking up I said: What?
He said: Stand up for Jesus!
Me (very frustrated): Jobie, why are you saying that?
Jobie: STAND UP FOR JESUS!
At which point I realized he was just asking for help.
Wanting me to pour more cereal for him.

And...I was convicted.
I always get so irritated
when the kids ask me for help with something.
What I'm doing is surely more important!
But that is so very wrong.
They are my kids.
I am their mom.
My job is to care for them.
And most importantly
be an example of Christ to them.

So, this week, when my kids have called for me.
Before I reply,
I remind myself:
Stand up for Jesus!

Mark 9:36 & 37
He took a little child and had him stand among them.
Taking him in his arms, he said to them,
"Whoever welcomes one of these little children
in my name welcomes me;
and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me
but the one who sent me."

Each week Beki at therustedchain hosts Fingerprint Friday and uses a song by Steven Curtis Chapman as a springboard. Join in. It's a great way to be reminded of God's presence.

I hear ya...experience that myself lately more so than usual. But I've tried to remind myself that life is short, these moments are fleeting, and to be in the moment. Nothing is more important in this world but them. Thanks for your honesty

Good reminder! I remember that it's hard to always be patient when you have little ones and so many things to do at once.

Once when my youngest son was about 2, he kept interrupting me when I was talking to a friend: "Mommy, mommy." I ignored him for a few minutes, then snapped at him, "WHAT?" and he said, "I love you, Mommy." Made me feel so bad and I tried to be sweeter after that.

A very good fingerprint. I'm having trouble with patience too.
